History
In 2011, Boeing was looking to replace the iconic 747 Jumbo Jet. Although still a popular airliner, the 747’s engineering dates back to the 1970s. Rather than add a new variant to the existing 747 line, Boeing designed the new 777X series from the ground up.
Range
One of the 747 Jumbo’s selling points was its 8,350-mile range. New technologies allow Boeing to break that range barrier. Both variants in the 777X commercial line can fly further: the 777-8 is capable of 13,400 miles, and its cousin, the 777-9, can travel 12,700 miles. As Boeing asserts, the new jets can connect almost any two cities on the globe. Sydney to London or Seattle to Dubai non-stop are now possible on a corporate private jet.
BBJ Version
Early on, Boeing recognized the opportunity to serve an elite niche with the new aircraft, and the BBJ 777X corporate private jet version was introduced. Unlike the commercial version which can carry up to 426 passengers, the BBJ (Boeing Business Jet) is designed to carry a small group of VIP passengers in lavish style.
With over 3,200 feet of interior space to work with, the designers let their imaginations run wild. The result is a corporate private jet on an epic scale. As of yet, there is no standard interior configuration for the BBJ version. Instead, Boeing lets the purchaser choose a custom interior.
