Stock

The face up card near the Stock must be played to a place in the Blackjack hands or a Discard Pile. As each card is played, the Stock will automatically flip another card.

Layout

The 16 spaces may hold one card each. The spaces form nine hands of from 2 to 5 cards each depending on the position of the spaces. There are two hands of 2 cards, two hands of 3 cards, three hands of 4 cards, and two hands of 5 cards.

Once a card is placed it may not be moved.

Discards

Solitaire

There are four spaces where cards may be placed that are not wanted in the Blackjack hands. Each space may hold one card.

Scoring

Scoring for the various Blackjack hands is based on how close the player comes to 21 in each hand. Face cards count as 10. Aces can count as either 1 or 11.

Each of the nine hands are scored as follows:

Hand

Points

Example

Blackjack10A Blackjack is two cards that total 21. A King, Queen, Jack, or 10 combined with an Ace
2173, 4, or 5 cards that total 21
205All cards in the hand total 20

183All cards in the hand total 18
172All cards in the hand total 17
16 and under1All cards in the hand total 16 or less
Bust0All cards in the hand total 22 or more

The scores from all nine hands are added together to arrive at the final score.

Game Notes

Blackjack Square is a Solitaire Network original created by Warren Schwader.

OK, we know the layout isn't exactly a square, but in keeping with the pattern of names and the game play of Cribbage Square and Poker Square we felt you would understand.

Introduction

One of the most frequent questions I get is on the probability of winning a game of solitaire and/or it is possible to at least gain an advantage under the standard rules. It isn't often that I say this when it comes to gambling, but my answer is 'I don't know.' It would seem nobody does. The purpose of this page will be to only to comment on the Klondike version of solitaire, which seems to be the form most frequently used in gambling. I am going to assume the reader is already familiar with the basic rules.

Wins quoted in this article are taken from the 'Mini Games' menu from the 5Dimes Internet casino.

Vegas Variant

In the Vegas variant, three cards are turned over from the Stock at a time. A configurable rule is how many times the player may play through the Stock. Here are two gambling variants I'm aware of:

Blackjack Solitaire Card Game

  • Three Passes — In the 'three passes' version, the player may pass through the Stock three times. The cost to play is 11.4 times the money returned per card. For example, the player might bet $57 and get back $5 for every card he puts in the Foundations. In an 'all or nothing' version, the player will win 7 for 1 if he gets all 52 cards in the Foundations, or nothing.
  • Unlimited Passes — In the 'unlimited passes' version, the player may pass through the Stock as many times as he wishes until he has no possible legal moves left. The cost to play is 30 times the money returned per card. For example, the player might bet $30 and get back $1 for every card he puts in the Foundations.

Strict Variant

Blackjack Solitaire Card Game

In the Strict variant, one card is turned over at a time and the player may go through the Stock once only. The cost to play is 10.8 times the return per card placed in the Foundations. In an 'all or nothing' variant, the win is 10 for 1 for placing all 52 cards in the Foundations, or nothing.
