The 50p coin is made from 75% copper and 25% nickel, a mixture which is called cupronickel. A single coin press at The Royal Mint is capable of making up to 500 coins a minute (720,000 a day). Each coin is struck with at least 100 tonnes of force when it is minted. A brief history of the 50p coin The coin was introduced into the UK back in 1969 in preparation for Decimal Day which took place on 15 February 1971. The 5p and 10p coins had already been issued the previous year, with the halfpenny, penny and two pence coins being released on Decimal Day itself.

The Model 50P is recommended for use on 3/8″, 1/2″, 5/8″ and 3/4″ Tongue and Groove flooring. The 50P is your best choice for installing some of the harder, 3/4″ exotics such as bamboo and other solid or engineered wood flooring.

The Model 50P uses a thinner 18 Gauge cleat that is less likely to split the tongue on thinner woods. It is also recommended for flooring that is a very hard species like hickory. Many of the hard exotics available today require a thinner cleat to penetrate without splitting the tongue.
